GRIESHEIM. Ein Jahr durch die Welt: Henry Buchberger war von den Menschen beeindruckt und startet in Griesheim zwei Projekte mit der Gründung eines Vereins.
Wenn einer eine Reise tut, dann kann er was erzählen. Zumal Henry Buchberger erzählen kann. 120 Menschen hingen an seinen Lippen, als er in Griesheim im Landgasthof über seine einjährige Weltreise berichtete. Landestypische Musik, Videosequenzen, Fotos, Tagebuchauszüge und Reiseequipment inbegriffen. Der Mensch kann mit Menschen, seine Empathie selbst völlig Fremden gegenüber am anderen Ende der Welt, überträgt sich sofort ins Publikum, zumal viele Freunde, Familie und Bekannte darunter waren. Der 36-jährige ehemalige Lehrer in Gräfinau-Angstedt hat sich einen Lebenstraum erfüllt, ist aber noch lange nicht am Ziel angekommen. Er sei auf Heimaturlaub, gab er verschmitzt kund, will später irgendwo als Entwicklungshelfer landen und dann endgültig auswandern.
Doch zunächst ein paar nackte Zahlen seiner bisweilen (Tor-)Tour. 375 Tage, 19 Länder, 74 verschiedene Übernachtungsorte. Er ist in Montenegro täglich auf dem Peak of Balkan 36 Kilometer durch das Gebirge gewandert, auf dem Balkan 27 Stunden für 800 Kilometer mit dem Bus gefahren, saß 18 Stunden im Zug in Tansania für eine Strecke von 560 Kilometern. Mit einem Van und Freunden aus der Heimat fuhr er zwei Wochen 3472 Kilometer durch das australische Outback, und er bestieg drei Dreitausender in Nepal, Vietnam und Indonesien und erlebte auf Bali Erdbeben der Stärke 4,9 und 5,2.
Wetterumschwung verhindert Trekkingtour im Himalaya
„Ein gut sitzender Wanderrucksack mit durchdachtem Innenleben“ war die Voraussetzung, beschreibt er in seinem Reise-Blog. Nach seiner ersten unvollendeten Trekkingtour durch das Balkangebirge trennte er sich jedoch wegen des Gewichtes von Schlafsack, Zelt, Isomatte, Campinggeschirr. In Indien traf Henry seinen Freund Jawad aus Afghanistan zum ersten Mal, dessen Familie er im Rahmen der Flüchtlingshilfe im Ilm-Kreis betreute. Im Schmelztiegel von Mumbai in Indien hat er absolute Armut neben absolutem Reichtum kennengelernt sowie das Überleben im Straßenverkehr. Er war schließlich froh, die lärmende, dreckige Millionenmetropole wieder verlassen zu können, dahin, wo einen die Natur in den Arm nimmt: Nepal.
15 Tage wollte er mit einem Guide im Himalaya auf Trekkingtour auf dem Annapurna Circuit wandern. Ziel sollte die Überquerung eines Passes auf 5400 Metern sein. Doch wegen eines drohenden Wetterumschwunges mussten sie nach sieben Tagen wieder absteigen. Auf dieser Touristenstrecke habe es 2014 bei einem Schneesturm über 40 Tote gegeben, erklärt Henry, jetzt sperren sie den Wanderweg rechtzeitig ab. In Thailand schrieb er weiter an der Griesheimer Chronik, in Kambodscha lernte er „Ossis aus Jena“ kennen, in Vietnam beeindruckte ihn das Wasserpuppentheater in Hanoi und eine buddistische Zeremonie und in Indonesien auf Bali bestiegen sie einen aktiven Vulkan. „Alles dampft und man denkt, hoffentlich gehst du jetzt nicht los“, umschreibt er das Herzklopfen dabei.
Zu Besuch bei langjährigen Freunden in Tansania
22 Jahre nach einem Schüleraustausch erlebte er Australien wieder. In Perth besuchte er Helen, deren Mann als Kind im Griesheimer Schloss gewohnt hatte. Dann verbrachte er mit Jana und Marco aus der Heimat die nächste Zeit im Outback. Im siebten Monat seiner Weltreise führte ihn sein Weg von Australien über Katar nach Tunesien. Dort traf er auf seinen Freund Horst und seinen Zwillingsbruder Tony. Am 26. Februar flog Henry von Tunis über Doha nach Tansania. Thomas und Heike, zwei langjährige Freunde, die vor 10 Jahren aus Arnstadt ausgewandert sind, besuchte er schon zum 3. Mal und wohnte in ihrer Safari-Lodge am Lake Chala mit Blick zum Kilimanjaro. Als Henry den South Boma FC beim Training zusah, fragte er nach deren Wünschen. Der tansanische Fußballclub in Boma Ng‘ombe wünschte sich „einen Ball“. Noch am selben Abend kontaktierte Henry seinen Heimatverein, den SV Fortuna Griesheim, wegen Trainingsmaterialien und Spielkleidung. Nicht einmal zwei Wochen später kam ein 25 Kilo schweres Paket an. Bei der Übergabe am 20. Juni nahm ein älterer Spieler seine Hand: „Dieser Ort ist von nun an deine zweite Heimat und du bist hier immer und jederzeit willkommen.“
Der Besuch der Materuni Primary School in Tansania am Fuße des Kilimandscharo hinterließ bei Henry ebenfalls nachhaltige Eindrücke. Dort will er nun mit dem hier gegründeten Verein „Karibuni Watu“ für die Instandhaltung der Gebäude sorgen und die bedürftigsten Schulkinder mit Schulmaterialien ausstatten. Die Fußballkinder vom South Boma FC sollen Sportmaterial und Hilfe bei der Ausbildung von Trainern bekommen. Am Vortragsabend konnten die Besucher Vereinsmitglied werden oder auch für die zwei Projekte spenden.

He is on home leave, he announced mischievously, and later wants to work as a development aid worker somewhere and then emigrate for good.
But first a few bare figures of his sometimes (goal) tour. 375 days, 19 countries, 74 different places to stay. He hiked 36 kilometres a day through the mountains on the Peak of Balkan in Montenegro, travelled 27 hours by bus for 800 kilometres in the Balkans, sat 18 hours on the train in Tanzania for a distance of 560 kilometres. With a van and friends from home, he drove 3472 kilometres through the Australian outback for a fortnight, and he climbed three three-thousand-metre peaks in Nepal, Vietnam and Indonesia and experienced earthquakes of magnitude 4.9 and 5.2 on Bali.
Weather change prevents trekking tour in the Himalayas
„A well-fitting trekking backpack with a well thought-out interior“ was the prerequisite, he describes in his travel blog. After his first unfinished trekking tour through the Balkan Mountains, however, he parted with his sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad, camping gear because of the weight. In India, Henry met his friend Jawad from Afghanistan for the first time, whose family he was looking after as part of refugee aid in the Ilm district. In the melting pot of Mumbai in India, he experienced absolute poverty alongside absolute wealth, as well as survival in traffic. In the end, he was happy to leave the noisy, dirty metropolis again, to a place where nature takes you in its arms: Nepal.
He wanted to spend 15 days trekking in the Himalayas on the Annapurna Circuit with a guide. The goal was to cross a pass at 5400 metres. But because of a threatening change in the weather, they had to descend again after seven days. There had been more than 40 deaths on this tourist route in a snowstorm in 2014, Henry explains, now they close off the hiking trail in time. In Thailand, he continued writing the Griesheim Chronicle, in Cambodia he met „Ossis from Jena“, in Vietnam he was impressed by the water puppet theatre in Hanoi and a Buddhist ceremony, and in Indonesia on Bali they climbed an active volcano. „Everything is steaming and you think, I hope you don’t go off now,“ is how he describes the palpitations.
Visiting long-time friends in Tanzania
22 years after a student exchange, he experienced Australia again. In Perth, he visited Helen, whose husband had lived in Griesheim Castle as a child. Then he spent the next time in the Outback with Jana and Marco from home. In the seventh month of his world tour, his way led him from Australia via Qatar to Tunisia. There he met his friend Horst and his twin brother Tony. On 26 February, Henry flew from Tunis via Doha to Tanzania. He visited Thomas and Heike, two long-time friends who emigrated from Arnstadt 10 years ago, for the 3rd time and stayed in their safari lodge at Lake Chala with a view to Kilimanjaro. Watching South Boma FC train, Henry asked about their wishes. The Tanzanian football club in Boma Ng’ombe wished for „a ball“. That same evening, Henry contacted his home club, SV Fortuna Griesheim, for training materials and playing clothes. Less than two weeks later, a package weighing 25 kilos arrived. At the handover on 20 June, a senior player took his hand: „This place is your second home from now on and you are always and anytime welcome here.“
The visit to Materuni Primary School in Tanzania at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro also left lasting impressions on Henry. There, he now wants to take care of the maintenance of the buildings and provide the neediest school children with school materials together with the association „Karibuni Watu“, which was founded here. The football children of South Boma FC are to receive sports equipment and help in training coaches. On the evening of the presentation, visitors could become members of the association or donate to the two projects.
